The Minors division gives players their first exposure to players pitching and operate with most softball rules. There is a 8U division and a 10U division. In 2026 there will be only one 10U team and possibly up to four 8U teams.
If there are enough 8U teams, the teams will mostly play each other, with limited travel.
10U teams travel 50% of the time to other towns to play games. Weekly practices/clinics will start before the season. Expect to meet 3 times/week (2-3 games and 0-1 practices) when the season gets going.
Most games are played with full softball rules (outs, strikes, etc.)... However, fastpitch softball is a different skillset and difficult to pitch accurately at this age, so most towns will have “local rules” that will help move the game along (ex. - by having coaches pitch after a walk) and make sure players are still engaged while allowing pitchers to gain experience.
This division uses 11" balls and pitches from 35 ft.
As guidance, we're steering all 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders into Minors 8U. Additionally, if your player is in 1st grade and born in 2018 then they should also play Minors 8U. If they were born in 2018, but this is their first year playing softball, then they probably should start with Rookies. We will be assessing players and will arrange divisions/teams based on skill and safety.
